End of the language plan – 2022

The first strategic plan for language revitalization in Kahnawà:ke was launched in 2018. The community goals and objectives set were meant to be carried through until 2022. The global covid-19 pandemic had a drastic impact on language reclamation work in many Onkwehón:we communities and Kahnawà:ke was no exception. Despite this, many language learners, advocates and educators adapted programming and adjusted objectives as needed.

The Skátne Enionkwaió’ten advisory committee is coming together to revisit the community language plan, and discuss the next steps in our language movement.

More updates to come in early 2023!

Good luck & Niá:wen!

A special project update from Kanerahtontha

Our team developed a special edition newsletter with project updates from community organizations as well as Kanien’kéha learning resources in 2020. However, due to the pandemic, these have not yet been distributed within the community. We have plans for hard-copy distribution within Kahnawà:ke including free give-away items!

The newsletter/booklet mentioned in the update is available here. The Kanien’kéha learning resources are also now available on our website for download, click here 🙂
